Crochet & Pearls

For the past 6 months or so, after seeing photos of everyone on the other side of the world be in summer gear, I have been steadily collecting a lot of white, crocheted or lace pieces. I've mentioned it before, my kind of summer is going to be very white and a little boho. I have never been the type to plan ahead what I'm going to be into for the coming season so this is a little surprising to me, nor have I been so committed to still like a certain style after so long. But I have been slowly accumulating pieces that are not too trendy, yes they have been all white and have some sort of lace or crochet detail to them, but I can certainly still see wearing them for a few years.

I also have to admit that Pearls have taken me aback a bit. It was something I was never drawn to wearing, though I have always admired it. I guess Pearls to me scream out elegance and poise and the first thought that pops into my head are Audrey Hepburn and Stepford Wives with their pearl necklaces and matching pearl studs. Not that there is anything wrong with those looks, I can certainly appreciate different styles, but let's face it, that is just not me. But some amazing jewellery designers out there have incorporated it into contemporary pieces I can see myself wearing. For example these Sarina Suriano Pearl pieces from her Omnis Collection can be worn casually or when you need to be dolled up. Accessories to me need to have that versatility to endure longevity in my wardrobe and let's face it, Pearls will NEVER go out style.

Enjoy your weekend!

Trench

This golden oldie is a surprise favourite of mine. The thought of a long coat overwhelms me emotionally and physically. I just feel like anything long swallows my frame, especially as I'm not the most tiniest person, vertically yes, but horizontally, no.

This old Zara trench has the best silhouette I've ever found in a trench. I wasn't really actively looking for a trench coat as they have never really appealed to me. During one of my lunch breaks a few years back and by lunch breaks, I mean Zara trips, and these Zara trips always resulted in a purchase. Lets just say I had to live on noodles for months. Zara had just opened in Sydney and I was completely smitten with anything and everything Zara. Anyways, I digress....where was I? Oh yeah, I stumbled upon this trench and the thing that drew me to it was it's amazing power shoulders. Everything was about power shoulders then. The bigger the better! The Dynasty wardrobe was definitely a great influence. Just lucky that the big teased hair wasn't in, or maybe it was and it just went over me.

I think the shoulder pads balances the whole trench out and this will definitely be a forever wardrobe staple.

Midi

I've been loving all the full midi skirt I've been seeing around lately. Granted it's out of my comfort zone being this girly and frilly, however it's extremely comfortable to wear. I love that it's being worn high waisted, this enables me to let my gut hang out without anyone really noticing that much. So if you see me pigging out at a local Maccas wearing these skirts, don't be scared to say hi, I promise I won't eat you too.

With the skirts being worn so high, it gives anyone an excuse to wear a crop top or a midriff top, which I thought I would never go near again. The last time I wore one was in Year 8 and my best friends Grandpa asked where the rest of my top was. Funnily enough, that's how my mind works right now. Maybe I'm just jealous cos I don't have the abs of steel to rock one now.

Either way, I can totally get on board with this look and it makes me never want to look at a mini-skirt ever again.

White Not?

How perfect is a white outfit to show off a tan? Admittedly I don't have much of a tan expect for my arms when they got burnt a few weekends ago. While I don't condone laying out in the sun and possibly catching melanoma, there's just something about a sunkissed skin.

As much as I love to complain about the heat, having a natural dose of Vitamin D gives you a little spring in your step.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Watercolours

I've had this ASOS dress for well over a year now. I went through a stage where I would trawl the sale section in ASOS, click on the "Lowest Price First" dropdown and just go through pages and pages of sale items. This dress was one of 4 I bought that night and I swear to you I did not spend anymore that $80 AUD.

I'd tried it on about 2-3 times convincing myself I didn't really like it that much. It has been hanging in the spare room wardrobe still with its tags on until the day before the wedding. I had envisioned wearing a black playsuit, but found it just didn't fit right and the fact that playsuits are not very bathroom friendly. That did not sit well with me considering I have a pea-sized bladder.

So in a mad panic I tried to make this dress work and it turns out I actually love it. The vibrant colours and the cut was just a little more flattering on my not-so-flattering figure. I wanted the colours on the dress stand out and just paired it with nude shoes and clutch.

Hope you all had or are having a lovely weekend!
