Crochet & Pearls

For the past 6 months or so, after seeing photos of everyone on the other side of the world be in summer gear, I have been steadily collecting a lot of white, crocheted or lace pieces. I've mentioned it before, my kind of summer is going to be very white and a little boho. I have never been the type to plan ahead what I'm going to be into for the coming season so this is a little surprising to me, nor have I been so committed to still like a certain style after so long. But I have been slowly accumulating pieces that are not too trendy, yes they have been all white and have some sort of lace or crochet detail to them, but I can certainly still see wearing them for a few years.

I also have to admit that Pearls have taken me aback a bit. It was something I was never drawn to wearing, though I have always admired it. I guess Pearls to me scream out elegance and poise and the first thought that pops into my head are Audrey Hepburn and Stepford Wives with their pearl necklaces and matching pearl studs. Not that there is anything wrong with those looks, I can certainly appreciate different styles, but let's face it, that is just not me. But some amazing jewellery designers out there have incorporated it into contemporary pieces I can see myself wearing. For example these Sarina Suriano Pearl pieces from her Omnis Collection can be worn casually or when you need to be dolled up. Accessories to me need to have that versatility to endure longevity in my wardrobe and let's face it, Pearls will NEVER go out style.

Enjoy your weekend!

White + Red + Stripes

I've mentioned before that I will essentially be living in white for the warmer months. What better way to repel the deathly stinging rays of the Australian summer than white. The past few months now I have been collecting a lot of white tops, looking back at them I notice a theme, they're all soft and billowy and have some sort of crochet or lace on them. I guess I'm going to look a lot like a hippy pharmacist, I'm down with that!

This dress was born from a culmination of frustration and bad luck. I found a similar dress at Zara, after walking away from it and telling myself I didn't need it, I eventually went back to try and get it.  However the material was so thin that there was a hole or a pull on every single one of them and I ain't parting with my hard earned moulah for that, ok maybe not hard earned, just earned!

I searched the interweb and practically every website known to a crazy online shopper and found nothing that I loved in my price range. So I trekked it to my local Korean fabric shop, bought this white material for $4 per metre and sat down and finally used my brain to create a pattern. There was definitely some trial and error as I went. Luckily, I perceive myself to be wider than I am so there was a lot of room to make mistakes and just take them in towards the end. Pretty chuffed about the end result!

Plus how amazingly cute are these Soludos striped espadrilles, I can't get enough of them! I love the whimsy of being able to tie a bow at the back plus they are super comfy!

Hope you all had a great Sunday! xxx

The Blues

How easy are chambray shirts to wear! Not only are they comfortable but they can look semi-dressed up somehow. The perfect item for an extremely lazy dresser like me. I think the key is playing the denim hues right. Personally, I wouldn't wear the same wash of jeans as shirt, I think it would just overwhelm my frame too much.

That's why I love this chambray shirt so much. The colour blocking is just perfect for mixing and matching. Plus I cannot wait to wear it open as a light jacket during the warmer months. I am picturing it with a white billowy dress or lace shorts. The endless styling possibilities of this chambray shirt just makes me giddy!

Plus how cute is this necklace?! It's not a secret that I'm an insane cat lady and what better way to showcase that by putting the initials of my fat furry friends on these cute kitty necklace pendants.

Where did the weekend go?

I hope you have a fab week ahead!

Blouse

I'm totally in-love with this collarless blouse from Zara. As of late, I've been wanting everything in white and anything billowy. Deep down I think I'm craving for warmer weather so I can fill my wardrobe with white everything. I have a feeling it's going to be a very boho and white summer and I cannot wait! It especially doesn't help that Sydney is having the most horrendous weather, it's rained non-stop for 2 days now and it's getting very depressing.

I hope you're having better or at least warmer weather where you are.

Lighter

I love dark coloured clothing/items as much as the next person, but as my inner motto has always been to try and create a point of interest in my outfits, I have always felt that anything dark would just blend in and become incognito. So for as long as I can remember, when I see something I like, I always see if they have it in a lighter colour. I guess for me, I gave the colour black a stigma that it's boring. I think it's stemmed from my love of handbags. Now unfortunately I have a champagne taste with a tap water budget when it comes to accessories, especially handbags. When I used to mull over what handbag I wanted, I never chose the colour black as I felt it was too boring and mainstream. I mean everyone has black handbags and I certainly didn't want to blend in (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Plus, I figured if you're going to spend a bit on an item, you would like it to stand out, right? Well, that's just my mentality, though that's not to say I don't have anything black.

Just lately I have been leaning a lot towards much lighter hued clothing. I'm loving that lighter tones are becoming for the colder seasons where previously it has been darker, richer jewelled tones. Give me the icy greys and pretty pastels anytime!

Have a lovely weekend!
